Endicott Baseball Wins Sunday at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine — The No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team shut out Colby, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at Colby Baseball Field.

WP (6-0): John Connolly (Attleboro) — 9.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
LP (0-3): Joe Sylvester (Hingham) — 2.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K

The Gulls controlled the game right out the gate, as Joey Frammartino (North Reading) crushed a leadoff home run to center field.

They added some insurance runs in the second inning with AJ Hamm‘s (Shrewsbury) first-career round-tripper, a two-run blast down the left-field line, and Nicolas Notarangelo‘s (Taunton) opposite-field two-run double to left field.

Brenden Walsh (Reading) then joined in on the offensive onslaught in the fifth, as he punched an RBI single through the left side of the infield to put the Gulls up 6-0.

The Blue and Green notched two more runs via a Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood) sixth-inning fielder’s choice and a Notarangelo seventh-inning sac fly to left.

Connolly got the nod on the mound for the second straight contest and did not disappoint. He tossed his first-career complete game and limited the Mules to just five base runners over the nine frames while fanning eight.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With the win, the Gulls improve to 6-1 in the all-time matchup.
  • Notarangelo recorded a game-high three RBI in the contest. He leads the team and ranks T-4th in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with 28 RBI this season.
  • Connolly’s shutout marks the first complete game shutout for Endicott since Gabe Van Eamon ’23 (Lexington, Mass.) on 4/29/23.
  • The right-hander also retired the first 12 Mules he faced in the contest.
  • In addition to his first-career home run, Hamm reached base for a career-high three times in the contest.

No. 1 Endicott (24-2, 9-1 CCC) travels to Suffolk on Tuesday for a 3:30 PM first pitch.


Salem State Baseball Falls Twice at Westfield (Sunday)

WESTFIELDWestfield State delivered three home runs in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader for a 6-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference (MASCAC) victory over Salem State before taking the second game, 6-2 to complete the sweep. The Owls boost their record to 16-7-1, 5-1, while the Vikings drop to 8-14, 4-4.

Game One

  • During the bottom half of the first inning, Alyssa Clark (Uxbridge) walked, and Abby Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) followed with a two-run home run to right-center field to deliver the first runs of the ball game. For Clark that was her third of the season.
  • Sarah Bingham (Reno) delivered a solo shot for her first home run of the season in the fourth to increase the Owls’ lead to 3-0.
  • Two innings later in the sixth, Hannah Wodecki (Southampton) hit her fourth home run of the season to increase Westfield State’s lead. Later, Mia Alfonso (Dalton) extended their lead with a two-run double off the center field wall.

Game Two

  • Jordyn Lummus (Pittsfield) started off the first inning with a lead-off triple and advanced home on an error by the right fielder for the first run for Westfield State. Two batters later, Bingham’s base hit delivered two more Owls runs, and Bingham advanced to third on a two-base error.
  • The Vikings had something going in the third when they had two runners on base, but unfortunately, Salem State couldn’t capitalize.
  • Salem State scored two runs in the fourth, which was highlighted by Emily Henning‘s (Grafton) RBI double to cut the Owls’ lead to one.
  • Westfield State added an insurance run in the sixth when Lummus delivered a two-out two RBI base hit up the middle to extend the lead to 5-2. The Owls added one more in the inning.
  • The Vikings had the tying run at the plate with the bases loaded. However, the game ended on a groundout.

 

Noteworthy

  • During the second inning Emily Carter (Warwick, R.I.) struck out two of the three batters that she faced.
  • Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.) recorded her third win of the season, improving to 3-4 after pitching four innings, giving up two hits and striking out five batters during game one. Carter, took the loss, to go to 2-2 on the season after pitching four innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs.
  • During game one, Abby Clark, Bingham, and Wodecki all homered.
  • Stephanie Scoville (Northfield, Mass.) picked up her fourth save of the season, pitching three shutout innings with four strikeouts.
  • Alaina Giuliano (Malden) was responsible for two of the Vikings’ three hits during game one.
  • Henning recorded two hits in game two. She was the only Viking with a multi-hit game, while Lummus and Wodecki combined for five hits in game two.
  • Gracie Martineau (Westminster) recorded the loss. She is now 2-5 on the season. She pitched 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and six runs, three of which were earned. Scoville recorded the win, pitching four innings and allowing three hits and two runs. Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.) recorded the save, pitching three shutout innings while giving up two hits.

What’s Next

Salem State will be looking to bounce back Monday  afternoon, April 15, when they return to Alumni Field for MASCAC action to face the Framingham State Rams for a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled at noon, and game two at 2:00 p.m


Saturday MSO Update

SALEM – The Salem State University baseball team (11-8 / 4-3) will be playing a doubleheader today Westfield State starting at 1 p.m. These games were postponed from yesterday.


Endicott College baseball will be playing at Colby today at noon in a makeup game from 4/7.

Endicott Splits Doubleheader –  On Saturday, The No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team split a doubleheader at Roger Williams, 4-3 and 8-15, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader action from Paulino Field on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Endicott 4, Roger Williams 3

WP (7-0): Jordan Gottesman (Acton) — 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
LP (4-1): Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) — 5.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
SV (2): Evan Scully (Maynard) — 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

The Gulls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by a Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood) RBI double to right-center field and a Joey Frammartino (North Reading) RBI single to right field. Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth)Danny MacDougall (Taunton), and Wladkowski each scored in the inning. In the bottom of the third, the Hawks got a pair on the board, but the Gulls responded with an insurance run in the top of the fifth via a Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton) RBI double, which pushed the Blue and Green’s lead back to two (4-2).

Gottesman provided another strong outing for Endicott, as he limited the Roger Williams lineup to just three runs over his 6.2 innings of work. He fanned seven hitters in the outing and earned his team-leading seventh win for the Gulls. The tandem of Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) (0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2K) and Evan Scully (Maynard) (SV, 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) combined to close out the final 2.1 innings for the Blue and Green, locking down the 4-3 victory (13th consecutive).


GAME TWO: Endicott 8, Roger Williams 15

WP (2-0): Nick Gleason (Northboro) — 4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LP (2-1): Brady Stuart (Hudson) — 1.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Endicott grabbed hold of another early lead thanks to a five-run first inning. Brendan O’Neil (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) sent a single through the right side of the infield to drive in Pacheco for the first run of the game. Notarangelo scored in the next at-bat, as Wladkowski plated him with a ground ball to shortstop.

Later in the inning, TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) and Brenden Walsh (Reading) each drove in runs with RBI singles to cap Endicott’s early offensive highlights. Roger Williams responded with eight runs in the following two innings, taking hold of an 8-5 advantage. The program’s all-time home run leader Notarangelo added to his career total with a solo blast in the top of the third, cutting the deficit to just two. However, the Hawks held on to their lead for the remainder of the contest, handing the Gulls their first loss in 14 games.

Endicott (23-2, 9-1 CCC) visits Colby today for a 12 PM first pitch.
