City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – June 2, 2020

The City of Salem continues to advance measures to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), lessen impacts on healthcare providers responding to this evolving situation, and support Salem residents and businesses during this public health emergency. New Updates

As a reminder, parking enforcement and charging is now in effect for City lots and garages. Parking at on-street meters will resume enforcement and charging next week on June 8^th.

The latest newsletter from the City’s Economic Recovery Task Force can be found at https://bit.ly/MAy26_EDRR. City officials will hold a reopening town hall for small businesses on Thursday, June 4^th at 3pm. Registration is required and can be done online at www.salem.com/register.
Waste Management will no longer pick up extra trash bags curbside starting the week of June 29^th, unless the bag is an approved orange City overflow trash bag.

Status of Cases

As of 3:00 p.m. on June 2, 2020, there are 606 Salem residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which 181 cases are currently active. 27 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, 425 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period. As of May 27, 2020, Salem’s case rate was 3.9% below the state’s case rate and the City’s testing rate was 6.5% below the state’s testing rate. Of all Salem residents tested through that date, 17.5% had tested positive.
