Worcester State 85, Salem State 53
Salem State men’s basketball opened the new year on their home court as they welcomed Worcester State University for a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. The Lancers secured the 85-53 victory behind an efficient shooting night from behind the arc (44.4%) to drop the Vikings to 0-1 in MASCAC play.
Chris MacDonald (Wakefield) paced the Vikings with 14 points while Jaden Castillo (Lawrence,) and Jarret Byrne (Melrose) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Women’s College Basketball
Salem State 76, Worcester State 72
Liz Zaiter notched a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds and Abuk Teng scored a season-high 21 points as Salem State held off Worcester State 76-72 in the MASCAC opener for both teams on Wednesday evening at Twohig Gymnsium. The Vikings snap a two-game skid and improve to 6-8 on the season and go to 1-0 in conference. The Lancers lose their sixth straight and are now 4-9 and 0-1 in the league.
