September Salem Days at the Museum of Science
During the month of September*, residents of Salem, MA with proof of residence (driver’s license, school ID, etc.) may explore the Museum of Science for FREE, thanks to the generous funding by the Read Family Charitable Trust. In addition to free entry to the Exhibit Halls, Salem residents will also be able to see Planetarium and Omni Theater shows for free during their visit. Additionally, groups visiting the Museum on either Saturday, September 10 or Saturday, September 24, will receive a food voucher for use in the Museum’s café that day.
This will be the ninth year of this remarkably successful and unique program, and we hope that you can take advantage of this opportunity to visit the Museum and experience the many new and iconic exhibits, shows, and programs offered daily.
Can’t make it to the Museum during the month? No problem! We are planning to bring the Museum of Science to Salem! Visit us at the Salem Farmers’ Market on Thursday, September 1 and Thursday, September 15 where we will be conducting a fun drop-in activity. And we won’t leave you empty-handed — take home an Engineering is Elementary Try It! Kit, that includes all the materials you need to complete the mini-design challenge, with instructions in English and Spanish.
We hope to see Salem residents in September!
* The Museum will be closed on Tuesday, September 6 and Tuesday September 20.
Salem Days FAQ’s
Driver’s license, Student ID or Photo ID are the most common proof of residence. If you don’t have any of these, we are more than happy to work with you. A utility bill indicating Salem residence, or something similar may be used.
Not a problem! Any indication of proof or residence will suffice. If you have questions or concerns, please email friends@mos.org.
Entry to the Museum for Salem residents in September is for up to four (4) guests. Per Salem resident/household that means:
- 4 Exhibit Hall entries
- 4 Omni entries
- 4 Planetarium entries
All passes/vouchers are only redeemable during the day of your visit and capacity in the theaters is limited.
If you are just planning to access the Exhibit Halls, just head over to the lobby entrance and show your proof of Salem residency. If you plan to access either an Omni or Planetarium show (or both), go over to the Museum’s box office and inform the attendant that you are a Salem resident, and they will help you secure Omni/Planetarium tickets. Please note, the Omni and Planetarium tickets are first come, first served.
Because Commuter Rail Service between Boston and Salem will be disrupted during the month of September, we are unable to provide free rides on select Saturdays. Therefore, on Saturday the 10th and Saturday, the 24th, we will be providing food vouchers for each visiting group to use in the Museum’s café. To collect your group’s food vouchers, please visit the table in the lobby that day. Please note: there is a limited supply of food vouchers. Vouchers have no monetary value and must be used during your visit.
We acknowledge there may by extraneous circumstances that will prevent many from visiting the Museum of Science; therefore we will be visiting you! On Thursday, September 1 and Thursday, September 15, come find us at the Salem Farmers’ Market. Here our Museum team will lead a fun drop-in activity for scientists of all ages. Also, Salem residents will also be able to pick up and take home an Engineering is Elementary Try It! Kit. These kits contain all the materials necessary to complete the mini-design challenge, with instructions in English and Spanish. Please note: supply of Try It! Kits are limited.
