City of Salem – 2-Week Look-Ahead Notice from National Grid: National Grid is working to install a 4″ high pressure plastic gas main on Nichols St. The work is planned for 7am to 3pm each day. Traffic will detour to Albion St, & Nichols St will be open to abutters only as the work progresses.

Winter Sports Previews: Endicott Men’s & Women’s Basketball 

The Endicott men’s basketball team opens up its 2023-24 campaign on Sunday, November 12 against Tufts at 1 PM. Here’s a look at the upcoming season:

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Gulls enter the winter third overall in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) preseason poll.
  • The Blue and Green will compete in 11 games at MacDonald Gymnasium and 13 contests away from The Nest (12 away, one neutral).
  • Head Coach Kevin Bettencourt enters year ten at the helm. He holds a 157-73 (.682) overall record and a 99-38 (.722) conference record.
  • Jalen Echevarria (Lynn) is currently sitting at 1,500 career points, which marks fourth all-time in program history.
  • The Gulls return reigning CCC Rookie of the Year Jeff Hill (Lynn). Hill averaged 13.7 points per game (41.4 FG%, 34.4 3PT%, 88.3 FT%), 2.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steals in 27.2 minutes per contest in 2022-23.

The Endicott women’s basketball team opens up its 2023-24 season on Friday, November 10, as Coast Guard makes its way into MacDonald Gymnasium for the 6 PM opener. Here’s a preview of the Gulls’ upcoming season.

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Endicott has been picked fourth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • The Gulls return three of their top five scorers from last season’s roster. The group includes Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.)Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine), and Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.), who scored 386, 128, and 110 points, respectively, in the 2022-23 season.
  • Endicott has punched its ticket to the CCC Tournament in 19 of its last 20 seasons heading into this year’s campaign, highlighted by a CCC Championship in 2019-20 and a CCC Finals appearance in 2021-22.
  • Dempsey was named to the CCC all-conference third-team for her performance last season, as she averaged 13.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and shot 45.5% from the field.
  • Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus) is the lone senior on the Gulls’ roster. She looks to build off career-highs of 4.4 points, 1.7 assists, and 0.7 steals per game last season as the leadership presence for a Gulls team which carries six freshmen on its roster.
