WAKEFIELD — Fire Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm fire at an industrial complex earlier this morning.
On Thursday, April 20, at 6:06 a.m., the Wakefield Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at WestRock Co. industrial complex at 365 Audubon Road.
Upon arrival, responding companies discovered the fire in the rear loading dock of the building. Firefighters struck a second alarm to get more manpower to the scene.
There were no injuries to employees or firefighters.
Firefighters from Reading, Stoneham, Melrose and North Reading responded to provide mutual aid at the scene. Saugus, Lynnfield and Woburn firefighters provided station coverage.
The plant will resume operations once cleanup is completed.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wakefield Fire Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
