Junior forward Ryder Frost erupted for 38 points and 20 rebounds for the Panthers (2-2) in the first round of the Commonwealth Motors Classic at Merrimack College. Beverly will play Andover or Methuen in the semifinals Wednesday.

Ryder Frost in his first tourney game explodes for 38 points & 20 rebounds to earn Player of the Game. Dylan Crowley was also strong with 17 points. Panthers move on to semi’s tomorrow

Warren Keel Jr. (25 points, 7 assists, 4 steals) continued to fill the stat sheet for the third-ranked Bulldogs (5-0) in the first round win of the Boverini Tournament at Lynn Classical. Lynn English will play Lynn Classical or Lynn Tech in Thursday’s championship game at 4:30 p.m.

Lynn Classical 50, Lynn Tech 44

Freshman Marvin Avery Jr. tossed in 18 points and junior Almanie Gerardo followed with 17 to power the Rams (3-2) past Lynn Tech in the first round of the Boverini Tournament. Lynn Classical will play Lynn English in Thursday’s final.

 

Girls’ Basketball

North Reading 49, Danvers 30

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at North Reading

Senior guards Brianne Slattery (14 points) and Sami Patch (9 points) led the way for the Hornets (3-1) in a first round victory over Danvers in the North Reading Holiday Invitational. North Reading advances to play Wakefield in the final on Thursday (6 p.m.).

 

Pentucket 50, Westford 43

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Lawlor Arena, North Andover

Junior Gabby Bellacqua (19 points) led the No. 18 Panthers (4-1-0) to a win in the first round of the Commonwealth Classic. Pentucket will play top-ranked Andover in the semifinals on Wednesday

 

Ipswich 45, Hamilton-Wenham 18

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at South Hamilton

Lucy Donahue (10 points) and Hazel Hoog (14 points) led the Tigers (2-1-0) to a win in the first round of the Institution for Savings Holiday Tournament.

 

St. Mary’s 61, Bishop Stang 29

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at North Dartmouth

Niya Morgan put up 23 points for the No. 8 Spartans (6-1) in a Catholic Central League win in North Dartmouth. Kellyn Preira (11 points), Yirsy Queliz (10 points, 7 assists, 5 steals), and Reese Matela (6 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks) also contributed in the win.
