Navigators Lose 5-4 Thriller To The Silver Knights On A Walk-Off Single

The North Shore Navigators and Nashua Silver Knights found themselves in familiar territory on Tuesday night. The two squads had played in Nashua earlier in the season and were tied up at four heading into the bottom of the ninth. That was once again the case at Holman Stadium as the Navigators made a late push to try and defeat their rival.

The ninth inning was absolutely thrilling for the Navigators . Trailing by one run heading into the inning, the team was looking for a comeback. They were able to get just that. Alex Brickman (Siena) got a one out single, and he reached second on a wild pitch. He was later sent home on a double by Mike D’acunti (Southern of FL). That knotted the game up at 4 and gave the Navs a chance to extend the game.

However, the Navigators were unable to stop the Silver Knights in the bottom of the inning. After Cam Disarcina reached second base after an error, two straight singles drove him home to give Nashua the walk-off win. This improved their record to 8-3 on the year.

One of the most threatening offensive players during the game for the Navigators was the aforementioned D’acunti. In addition to the ninth inning double, he hit a monster home run in the fifth that cut the Silver Knights’ lead to 4-3. It was the first homer of the year for him. He also managed to triple in the seventh, though he did not score. On the night, he went 3-5 and totaled 2 RBIs on the night.

Conor Bawiec (Elmira College) had another good night at the plate and proved that he deserved a spot in the lineup. Bawiec ended up going 2-4 on the night, but he reached base three times. He got on after an error, and scored the first run of the day for the Navs. He scored in the top of the fourth as well, after Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) drove him home. After the solid performance, Bawiec’s average was raised to .364.

The pitching from the Navigators was pretty good tonight as well. Starter Cam Lanzilli (UMass Lowell) worked four innings picking up six strikeouts. However, the best performance came from Brian Burke (Curry College). Burke pitched three scoreless innings and allowed only two hits in total. He also picked up his first strikeout of the season.

The Navigators will return to action on Wednesday, June 15 when they play host to the Silver Knights at Fraser Field. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Navigators Owner Patrick Salvi Wins Tommy Lasorda Legends Award

The owner of the North Shore Navigators, Patrick Salvi, has added yet another accolade to his impressive baseball resume. On Monday, Salvi was awarded the inaugural Tommy Lasorda Legends Award. The award was created by the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame to honor contributions that a person has made to the game of baseball.

“Pat receiving this award just further demonstrates the leadership that he has taken on in baseball. He has shown a commitment to the sport and deserves recognition for his efforts,” said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky.

Salvi bought the North Shore Navigators before their 2012 season. When Salvi took over the team he elected to have the Navigators switch leagues. Previously, the team had played in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), but they made the switch to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL), which began its operations in 2011. They have played in the FCBL for the past four seasons.

During his tenure as the Navigators owner, Salvi has helped the team become respected league wide. In 2015, the Navigators set a franchise record in wins, earning 33 victories under new field manager John Zizzo. They hosted the FCBL All-Star Game as well and because of the superb performance by the Navigators in general, they were awarded the 2015 FCBL Organization of the Year Award.

Aside from the Navigators, Salvi is also the owner of the Schaumburg Boomers, an independent team in the Frontier League, and the Gary South Shore Railcats, an independent team in the American Association. With those teams, Salvi has earned an Organization of the Year award once (2013 with the Boomers) and has captured three league championships (one with the Railcats and two with the Boomers).
