Hamilton-Wenham Soccer – Falls 2-1 to Georgetown – Report from coach Nancy Waddell

Despite tremendous effort and intensity, the Generals fell to the Royals.  Georgetown scored first in the fourteenth minute on a long shot that was out of the reach of junior goalie Stewart Bernard.  The Generals seemed to have tied up the game off some great individual play by senior forward Georgia Mazuzan who clanged the ball off the post.  Junior midfielder Lily Mark was there to finish it, but a puzzling call by the referee took the point of the scoreboard due to offsides.
Georgetown took a 2-0 lead ten minutes into the second half on an own goal.  From that point on the Generals dominated play.  They passed with precision and attacked every chance they had.  With eighteen minutes left, they were rewarded for their hard work when sophomore forward Tessa Hunt was taken down in the box by the last defender.  Senior midfielder Ella Schenker converted the penalty kick to put the Generals on the board.
Senior Kaitlyn Menegoni earned some minutes in the second half  in the midfield and took advantage from the first second.  She dominated when the ball was in the air winning headers, settling the goalie punts, and starting the offense.
Despite the one-sided advantage on shots, Generals 14, Royals 4, the Generals could not convert.
The Generals (5-4) face Triton on the road on Thursday.

Hamilton-Wenham Volleyball falls to Newburyport – from coach Marc Turiano

The Hamilton-Wenham volleyball fell on the road to the Newburyport Clippers by a score of 3-0 (7-25, 20-25, 17-25) on Monday evening.  The Generals weren’t able to turn a strong defensive game into offensive production during the first set, but improved offensive efficiency kept the 2nd and 3rd sets close.  HW was led by senior Amber Scanlon’s 15 assists and 2 aces, as well as senior Grace Roebuck’s 5 kills and 7 digs.  The Generals will host Lynnfield on Thursday evening.
