City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – March 30, 2020
The City of Salem continues to advance measures to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), lessen impacts on healthcare providers responding to this evolving situation, and support Salem residents and businesses during this public health emergency.
New Updates
- Waste Management has reopened their customer call center at 800-972-4545 and has resumed scheduling and carrying out bulky item pick-up.
- The Commonwealth has launched an initiative to connect health professionals who can volunteer to assist with local COVID-19 relief efforts. You can find out more and sign up at https://www.mass.gov/health-services-covid-19-volunteer-form.
- The state legislature is considering a law allowing municipalities to waive interest on late tax payments and other bills issued in March, April, May, and June 2020. The City of Salem is putting together a policy to allow homeowners and other property owners to apply for this benefit and also to enter into payment plans to defer the cost of these bills. Details will be posted at salem.com/news when they are available.

Status of Cases
Due to the increased amount of testing, as of 4:00 p.m. on March 30, 2020, there are 28 positive novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the City of Salem.
