Update from Athletic Director Craig Genualdo

In a few short hours, the HW Athletic Regular Season will come to a close.  We would like to thank the many people that support our programs, coaches, and student-athletes.  Your work does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the role you play in our Athletic Program.
Next week, the MIAA will announce State Tournament pairings.  It is anticipated that Baseball, Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Tennis, and Girls Tennis will all qualify for their respective State Tournaments.  Depending on the sport, tournament pairings will be announced over the course of the week, and we anticipate games beginning toward the end of next week.  Here are the current statewide rankings.  Each of HW’s teams are found in Division IV.
Please continue to check MaScores, the HW Athletic Web Site, and Twitter for updates to our schedules.
Before signing off this week, here are some notable accomplishments to mention.  Congratulations to the following:
  • Boys & Girls Tennis who won the Cape Ann League, each for the second year in a row.  Each are poised to make deep runs in this year’s State Tournament.  The Girls Tennis team is defending their State Title and Boys Tennis is looking to again get back to the Final Four and beyond.
  • Baseball and Girls Lacrosse for qualifying for the State Tournament.  Baseball has qualified for the ninth year in a row and Girls Lacrosse, an anticipated top ten seed, has qualified for the third year in a row.
  • Boys Lacrosse is predicted to make the State Tournament with a team rating that will get them in the dance.  Lacrosse pairings will be announced next week.  Softball has concluded their season and likely will not qualify.  However, the turnaround this year under first year Coach Mary Flynn is incredible.  The Generals earned five wins and were in a number of other games.  This year’s wins were the first for the program since 2018.
  • Finally.  Sophomore Georgia Wilson won the Division 6 Individual State Championship yesterday at Westfield State University in the Girls Triple Jump with a leap of 36′ 5″.  She has advanced to All-States next week!
