The Town of Danvers Electric Division has announced updates to its customer charges for 2025, following the Municipal Light Board meeting held on December 19, 2024. While electric rates will remain un-changed for the new year, the Municipal Light Board voted to increase the fixed fee customer charge, effective January 1, 2025. The customer charge, implemented in 2021, is a fixed fee applied to all accounts regardless of the amount of energy used. This charge supports the critical functions of Danvers Electric, ensuring sufficient revenue to fund metering, billing, and administrative operations necessary for the reliable delivery of electricity to the Town of Danvers ratepayers.
The updated customer charges are as follows:
-
- Residential (R1): $10.00 (previously $7.50)
- Small General (G1): $14.76 (previously $11.07)
- Medium General (G2): $54.66 (previously $40.99)
- Large General (G3): $273.22 (previously $210.00)
The Municipal Light Board worked closely with industry consultants to evaluate the financial needs of the Electric Division and to determine appropriate customer charges. These adjustments reflect the commitment to maintain-ing a financially sustainable utility while continuing to provide reliable and affordable service to customers. With this increase, a prompt-pay resident with an average monthly electricity consumption of 750 kWh will experience a slight increase of 2.1% in their monthly bill, from $107.70 to $109.95.
