North Shore Navigators Can’t Keep Pace With Wachusett Dirt Dawgs On The Road

The North Shore Naviagtors fought valiantly against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs in their first meeting of the season, but the team could not ultimately come up with their first victory. The Dirt Dawgs piled on some runs late to defeat the Navigators by a final score of 8-3.

Regardless of the final score, the Navigators played well on the day and held pace with the Dirt Dawgs until late in the game. Early in the contest, the Navigators took a 2-1 lead thanks to a Riley Herold (Nebraska-Omaha) double. Herold drove in two runs as Alex Brickman (Siena College) and Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) on the play.

Brickman was one of the best offensive performers on the night for the Navigators. The designated hitter went 2-4 on the night and raised his batting average to an even .300. He also came in to pitch in the eighth inning. He surrendered a solo home run, but he managed to strike out the side.

Drew Delsignore (Mercyhurst Northeast) had one of the biggest moments of the

game for the Navigators. In the top of the seventh inning, with the team trailing 3-2, he led off the inning with a solo home run. This tied the game up at 3 and was the first home run of the season for Delsignore.

Nick Malatesta (St. Joseph’s College of Maine) got the start on the night and had a generally solid performance on the night. He managed to last 5 and 1/3 innings on the day and struck out 4 batters. Malatesta allowed only 3 runs on the day and he was credited with a no decision in the game. Over the course of the season, Malatesta has pitched 10 and 1/3 innings, allowing only the 3 runs and striking out 5.

Unfortunately, the Navigators just could not manage to keep the game in check late. The Dirt Dawgs were powered by four home runs on the night and that ultimately was the difference in the game.

The Navigators will return to action on Friday, June 10 for a home game against the Nashua Silver Knights. The game will be the first  “Firework Friday” Game at Fraser Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
