Boys Tennis

Hamilton – Wenham Boys tennis team fell to Weston on Thursday afternoon 4-1 in the first round of the Div III MIAA North tournament. They finished the regular season as CAL Baker Co-Champions with a final record of 13-6.
Winners for the Generals were the first doubles team of Nick McLane and Billy Whelan 6-2, 6-2

In the first round of the Division 2 state tournament, Marblehead Boys Tennis prevailed 5-0 over  Lynn Classical team. Report from Lynn Classical Tennis

1st singles: Junior captain Justin Faia had a terrific match, winning the first set 7-6 in a tie-breaker that went to 12-10 against fellow junior Calvin Cheung. The second set was 6-3 for Justin. Justin faced two different playing styles in the two sets: in the first set, Calvin played conservatively, just keeping the ball in play and waiting for Justin to commit to coming to the net and then trying to pass him. In the second set, Calvin was much more offensive with his play, but Justin adjusted well and took control of the net and the second set. Good win for our number one singles player.

2nd singles: Junior captain Felix Litvak beat senior Mehdi Bakhouch 6-0, 6-2. Felix played consistent, aggressive groundstrokes to give him opportunities at the net. Well done, Felix.

3rd singles: Freshman Billy Ackerman had a tight first set against Moses Ba before winning the second set more definitively. The score was 7-5, 6-2 for Billy. The first set was key to his dominance in the second. Good physical and mental toughness at play here.

1st doubles Freshmen Dan Litvak and David Grenader won 6-0, 6-1 against two seniors Patrick Gibb and Simon Kazimierczyk. Dan and Dave came off the block on fire and played two almost flawless sets.

2nd doubles: Junior captains Sam Orenstein and Garrett Tully were down 1-2 against Gerry Ennis and Alex Chea, but then rattled off 11 straight games to win 6-2, 6-0. Good team work and positive aggressive play won them the match.

In sub varsity play, freshmen Jack Quigley and Tony Gluskin won 6-0.

Up next is Winchester which had a bye in the first round for our first appearance in the quarter finals in quite some time.
