Coach Kerri O’Connor, Ipswich:  We met our team goal once again of playing “better together”.   Izzy Primack played a rock solid defense with 4 caused turnovers. Meghan O’Connor had accurate draw control to Julia Glavin who then won 9 draws. Delaney Whooley and Annie Gillis had strong smart shots on goal and Annie used her speed and intensity from start to finish. Kelsey Daly was a leader who stepped up in all positions in the field and our goalie Emily along with each player in our team played with heart and energy

Belmont 3 Marblehead 2 – Notes from Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal

In an epic match which came down to one set, Belmont won 3-2 in Marblehead. The score was tied 2-all and came down to the 3rd set in 2nd doubles. With both teams pinned to the fence, cheering for every good shot , the pressure was intense. The boys left their hearts on the courts and gave it everything they had. That’s all I can ask of them and I’m very proud of how the played all season and competed at their highest level today.

1st singles: Senior Quad-captain Justin Faia lost to Caleb Harris 6-2, 6-2

2nd singles: senior quad-captain Felix Litvak lost to Jackson Luce 6-2, 6-2

3rd singles: Sophomore Billy Ackerman beat Anton Kutsman 6-4, 6-4

1st doubles: Senior quad-captains Sam Orenstein and Garrett Tully beat Andrew Repuccii and Calvin Reinhardt-Ertman 7-5, 6-4

2nd doubles: Sophomores Dan Litvak and Jack Quigley lost to juniors Brenndon Kim and David Longergan 3-6, 6-2, 6-1

Marblehead is the NEC south division champs and went undefeated in league play (14-0); 14-7 overall.

Hamilton-Wenham 3, Lynnfield 2 – Match report from HW coach Joe Maher

Nick Ong and Will Curtis are used to three-setters with the match on the line. The second doubles duo had lost 3 heartbreaking matches this year in three sets. But when their team needed them most, they came up with their biggest win of the year, winning the decisive point for the Generals 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3. In the third set, Ong and Curtis stepped up their intensity and got aggressive with the returns and volleys to take control of the match. Ong’s tough serves and Curtis’ strong volleys were the difference in the end.
Setting up the dramatic win was a win at first singles from Billy Whelan. Whelan fought off multiple set points in the first set, before coming back to win 7-5 and then cruising to a 6-2 two set victory.
At second singles Jack Greenwald played a great match, but Arlex Correa prevailed in an exciting three setter, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1
At first doubles, Ben Danforth and Thor Messer started slow losing the first set 4-6, but prevailed in the following two sets pulling out the 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Colin LaMusta prevailed in straight sets for the Pioneers at 3rd singles.
The Generals (10-7) will face #2 seed Swampscott (14-2) tomorrow in Swampscott at 3:30 pm in the DIII North Quarterfinals.

Navigators Lose Opener on the Road

(Portsmouth, N.H.) – It’s June which means one thing, Baseball’s back! It’s opening night in the 2017 FCBL Season as your North Shore Navigators took on the Seacoast Mavericks. It didn’t go the Navigators way tonight as they fell 2-1 tonight against the Mavericks in an old fashion pitcher’s duel. Both offenses didn’t click as the bats were silent all night. In the bottom of the third inning Jake Label’s two run single off Navigators Starter Conor Bawiec (Elmira) gave the Mavericks the early lead 2-0. The Navigators offense came from first basement Traverse Briana (UMASS LOWELL) who smashed a solo homerun to left center field to bring the game within one in the fourth inning but that would be all the Navigators could muster.

The Mavericks pitching staff that was led by their starter Casey Aubin (UMass). The right hander tossed a masterful six innings giving up three runs on four hits and striking out six Navigator batters. For the Navigators, Conor Bawiec (Elmira) pitched a solid five innings for his club tonight. Both bullpens gave up zero’s the rest of the way.

Worth noting Traverse Briana’s Homerun in the fourth inning was the first by a Navigators player in the Future League season opener in franchise history” (Courtesy: Joshua Kummins). Brianna is projected to an important bat for the Navigators this season and he is off to a good start after tonight.

Saturday is the home opening night for the Navigators  as they play host to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. Evan Glew (Northern Essex) will pitch for the Navs. Glew had a phenomenal season for his school posting a record of 7-0 with a 2.45 ERA he has a good arsenal of pitches and it’s going to be on display on Saturday Night. Game time 6 p.m.
