City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – April 29, 2020
The City of Salem continues to advance measures to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), lessen impacts on healthcare providers responding to this evolving situation, and support Salem residents and businesses during this public health emergency. New Updates
- Mayor Kim Driscoll will host a business convening on Thursday, April 30th at 9:00 a.m. in partnership with Destination Salem and the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Local Salem businesses are invited to participate live by registering at salem.com/salembizregistration. Advance registration is required to participate; however, the convening will also be recorded and available afterward for those members of Salem’s business community unable to join live. Panelists on the convening include the heads of the Massachusetts Retailers Association and the Massachusetts Restaurant Association.
- Salem seniors who need a mask or face covering can call the Council on Aging at 978-744-0924 and leave a message with their name, address, and telephone number so that a mask can be delivered to them.
- The Scholarship and Education Committee has extended the application due date for 2020 Salem Scholarship applications to noon on Monday, June 15th. In addition, the Committee is temporarily suspending consideration of Education Fund grant applications until further notice. Status of Cases
As of 4:00 p.m. on April 28, 2020, 373 Salem residents have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 17 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, at least 87 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period. There are currently 286 active cases.
