TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus says the Tewksbury Police Department is trying to learn the identity of a man who has been unable to communicate with police.

A Tewksbury resident spotted a man around 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, wandering down Kennedy Road. The resident said he could not communicate with the man and brought the man to the Tewksbury Police station to see if officers could provide assistance. The man has repeated “119” several times, but has not communicated otherwise.

Officers tried to communicate with the man through online translation, but were unsuccessful. Officers asked the man to communicate through pen and paper, but he refused. A police officer from Andover who knows sign language also attempted to communicate with the man, but could not.

Tewksbury Police have reached out to local social service agencies and regional law enforcement to see if they can identify the man, but have hit dead ends.

The man is elderly and Asian. An image of him appears in this news release.

The man has been taken to a local hospital for evaluation while police work to identify him.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Tewksbury Police at 978-851-7373.
