TEWKSBURY – Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested and charged a man in connection to a stabbing at Tewksbury State Hospital that occurred Thursday night.
BRIAN KOBS, AGE 39 of GLOUCESTER, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Attempted Murder
- Breaking and Entering (Misdemeaner)
- Possession of a Class E Drug
- Assualt and Battery with Dangerous Weapon
- Two Outstanding Warrants
- Warrant 1 (Out of Boston District Court)
- Assualt and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Two Counts)
- Resisting Arrest
- Threat to Commit Crime
- Assualt and Battery (Two Counts)
- Warrant 2 (Out of Boston District Court)
- Assualt with Dangerous Weapon
- Disorderly Conduct
- Destruction of Property under $1,200
- Warrant 1 (Out of Boston District Court)
On Thursday, Feb. 15, at approximately 7 p.m., Tewksbury Police were notified of an assault on the grounds of the Tewksbury State Hospital.
Officers arrived to discover that an individual had been stabbed during an altercation between parties who are known to each other. The suspect, later identified as KOBS, then fled the area.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The Tewksbury Police Department Drone Unit, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, and multiple K-9 units assisted in the search.
On Friday, Feb. 16, at approximately 8:46 a.m. Tewksbury officers were dispatched to the area of Lee Street for possible citing of a suspicious person. Upon arrival officers located KOBS in a shed.
KOBS was taken into custody without incident and is being treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
A preliminary investigation determined that this was not a random incident.
“I would like to thank my officers for their immediate response, including those who came in off-duty to assist in the search,” said Chief Columbus. “I would also like to thank the Massachusetts State Police for their assistance and for the use of the Air Wing Unit. I am proud of our members and our assisting agencies for their diligence and professionalism during this incident.”
KOBS is expected to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Friday.
