NORTH READING 一 The North Reading Police Department is pleased to announce that 10 women recently completed a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course offered by North Reading police officers who are certified instructors in the self-defense program.
The four-part course seeks to empower women through awareness, verbal tactics, and defensive tactical training. There are also versions of the self-defense course available to seniors and children.
The course was taught by Sgt. Paul Dorsey, Sgt. Kevin Donle, Detective Michael Marra, and Drug-Free Communities Director Amy Luckiewicz.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work that was put into this course by our students,” said Director Luckiewicz. “Our goal is to help instill self-confidence in the students who participate as they learn potentially vital self-defensive tactics. We hope these tactics are never needed, but we work to create a more prepared populace in our community.”
The North Reading Police Department hopes to offer additional RAD courses in Spring 2023.
“I encourage everyone to consider participating in this informational and hands-on program,” said Chief Murphy. “These courses — not just the actual self-defense component but the confidence and resilience the class instills in its participants, can be life-changing. I am grateful to Director Luckiewicz and our North Reading Police officers who make these classes possible.”
