Sunday: Congressman Moulton to Present Second Annual Peter J. Gomes Service Award and Participate in Day of Service

SALEM – On Sunday, September 10, Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) will announce  the recipient of the second annual Peter J. Gomes Service Award. The award ceremony will be held at Lynn City Hall at 12:30pm and will be open to the press. After the award ceremony, Seth will join over fifty volunteers to participate in a day of service in honor of September 11th.

The Peter J. Gomes Service Award is given to an individual in the Sixth Congressional District of Massachusetts who best epitomizes the qualities of integrity, compassion, and commitment to community that were the foundation of the late Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes’ teachings.

The finalist for the award are:
Jocelyn Cook of Marblehead, Founder of SPUR
Anne Deneen of Gloucester, Reverend for St. Paul Lutheran Church
Brenda Mattos of Beverly, Volunteer who works with the homeless
Jason McCuish of Lynn, Teacher at Lynn Tech & My Brother’s Table
Mary Margaret Moore of Salem, Former Director of the Independent Living Center of the North Shore and Cape Ann
Rick Palardy formerly of Georgetown, Fireman & community volunteer
Sandra Suarez of Lynn, Operations Manager at Compass Working Capital
Rob Werner of Salisbury, Founder of the Leeward Foundation

Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes was a professor of religion at Harvard Divinity School, and the renowned preacher at Harvard Memorial Church, where Seth attended throughout college. He inspired Seth, and countless others, to live a life of service.

Following the award ceremony, Seth and more than 50 volunteers will participate in activities including: serving a meal at My Brother’s Table, home renovation with Lynn Housing and Neighborhood Development, fall cleanup at Girls Inc. Lynn, urban gardening with the Lynn Beatification Project, farming at The Food Project Lynn Park, and a cleanup at Lynn Commons.
