Stoneham Police Department Charges Man in Connection with Bank Robbery

TONEHAM — Police Chief James O’Connor reports that the Stoneham Police Department arrested and charged a Stoneham man in connection with a bank robbery.

MARK AMERAULT, 54, OF STONEHAM, was arrested and charged with:

  • Armed Robbery while Masked

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 2:03 p.m., Stoneham Police were notified of a robbery at the Citizens Bank branch inside of Stop and Shop at 259 Main St.

Officers arrived to learn that a male suspect who was wearing a mask passed a note to a teller that demanded cash and claimed he had a gun.

Stoneham Police began an investigation in partnership with the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force.

That investigation identified AMERAULT as a suspect. AMERAULT was located about 5 p.m. Wednesday at 68 Main St. and was taken into custody without further incident. An investigation into the robbery remains ongoing.

AMERAULT will be arraigned Thursday in Woburn District Court.

“I’d like to highlight the fantastic investigative work of the Stoneham Police officers and detectives who worked with the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force to identify a suspect within hours,” said Chief O’Connor. “I’d also like to thank the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force and the Middlesex DA’s Office for their support.”
