A two-vehicle crash this morning on Route 495 South at Winthrop Avenue in Lawrence resulted in the death of a Lawrence woman.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mical O’Brien indicates that at about 7:00 a.m. this morning, SHEILA ANN PURPORA, 44, of Lawrence, was traveling southbound in a 2005 Toyota Scion when her vehicle came into contact with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup operated by a 65-year-old Amesbury man. As a result of the crash, both vehicles rolled over.
PURPORA, who was ejected during the crash, was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the pickup was transported to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. No charges have been filed at this time. Also assisting on scene was Lawrence Fire and EMS and a trooper assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
