UPDATE: State Police Investigating Death of Gloucester Man in Beverly Motorcycle Crash; Rockport Woman Injured

BEVERLY -UPDATE, Saturday, 8/6:  The deceased has been identified as Andrew R. Lezynski, 30, of Gloucester.  No further information is currently available

Friday, 8/5: At 3:22 p.m. today, Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Byron Rizos, who was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle on the southbound side of Route 128 in Beverly, observed a motorcycle crash on the northbound side of the highway. Off-duty Sgt. Rizos responded to the crash and notified the Danvers Barracks, also requesting that the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section respond. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle veered into the guardrail on the left side. The operator, a 30-year-old Gloucester man, was thrown off the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The passenger on the motorcycle, a 29-year-old Rockport woman, was also seriously injured in the crash. She was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper James Maloney along with the collision reconstruction and crime scene troopers. Troopers are investigating excessive speed as a factor. The Beverly Fire Department and Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted at the scene of the crash.
