WINTHROP – The St. Mary’s boys basketball defeated Pope John 60-48 in an MIAA Division Four North semi final game at Winthrop High School. The Spartans will now take on Lowell Catholic at Tewksbury later this week for the D4 North Title. Lowell Catholic defeated Matignon tonight 86-69. St. Mary’s was led by Josh Perez’s 14 points, Jonny Mercado 13 pts., and Jalen Echevarria 12 points. Pope John was led by Christian Hebert’s 12 points. Pope John led at the half, 27-25 but by the end of the third quarter St. Mary’s had taken a 46-38 lead and increased that lead in the fourth quarter.
