Saugus Police Respond to Walden Pond for Report of Swimmer in Distress‏

SAUGUS – Chief Domenic DiMella reports that the Saugus Police Department, along with the Saugus Fire Department, Lynn Police Department and Lynn Fire Department, responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at Walden Pond, located in the Lynn Woods Reservation, this afternoon.

On Sunday, June 19, at approximately 1:56 p.m., a 911 call came into the Saugus Police Dispatch reporting that a 13-year-old male was in distress while swimming at Walden Pond.

Within minutes, Saugus Police arrived on scene followed immediately by the Saugus Fire Department, Lynn Police Department, Lynn Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and the Cambridge Police Dive Team.

Crews immediately began searching the water and areas surrounding the pond. At approximately 2:33 p.m., the Saugus Fire Department advised they had located the victim in the water and immediately began resuscitation.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. Reports indicate the 13 year old Lynn youth has passed away.

The Lynn Woods Reservation borders Saugus, Lynn and Lynnfield.
