Men’s College Basketball

Endicott 92, Gordon 82 – The Endicott men’s basketball team defeated crosstown rival Gordon College, on Saturday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium. Prior to tip-off, seniors Mark Barrett (Brookline Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.)Jalen Echevarria (Lynn Parker McLaren (Newburyport), and Taylor Yates (Saint Albans, Vt.) were all honored for their contributions to the men’s basketball program and the College in a pre-game ceremony. McLaren paced the Gulls with 20 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 3PT, 6-6 FT) and 12 rebounds, both career-highs. Echevarria also poured in 17 points (6-13 FG, 1-5 3PT, 4-4 FT) to become the second all-time leading scorer in program history. The senior guard accomplished the feat with a mid-range pull-up jumper at the 5:27 mark of the second half. Meanwhile, Barrett nearly registered a triple-double with 17 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.

Westfield 86, Salem State 85 – Senior Day at SSU – JuJu Omot’s (Springfield) three-point play in the final five seconds of the game sealed Westfield State University’s victory over the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon. The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory for the Owls bumped them to 18-7 overall and 9-3 in conference play while it dropped the Vikings to 12-12 on the season and 5-7 in MASCAC action. Before this afternoon’s regular season finale, the Vikings honored lone senior Jaden Castillo (Lawrence) Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) and Castillo led the Vikings with 31 points and 27 points, respectively, while Castillo dished out six assists in the effort. For the Owls, Omot had a game-high 33 points, including the game- winning free throw, while Brendon Hamilton (Worcester, Mass.) had a 15-point, 15-rebound performance in the victory. The Vikings will hit the road this Tuesday, February 20 for the first round of the MASCAC post-season tournament.


Women’s College Basketball 

Westfield State 95, Salem State 67 – Salem State’s Ernidia Goncalves (Everett)  and Abuk Teng (Manchester, N.H.)  both recorded double-doubles, with Goncalves grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with 18 points, and Teng notching 10 rebounds and 21 points in the effort. The Vikings will be back at home this Tuesday, February 20th where they will host the first round of the MASCAC post-season tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7p.m.


Endicott 94, Gordon 82 – Senior Day – The Endicott women’s basketball team never trailed in its conference victory over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium. Prior to tip-off, senior Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus) was honored for her contributions to the women’s basketball program and the College in a pre-game ceremony. Emma Shinney (Wakefield) highlighted the Gulls in the contest with a career-high 25 points (10-17 FG, 1-3 3PT, 4-7 FT), a program record 13 assists, and seven rebounds. Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) and Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) contributed their ninth and seventh double-doubles (21 PTS/16 RBS | 15 PTS/10 RBS) of the season to the victory, respectively. Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) rounded out the list of double-digit scorers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor (5-9 3PT).

Endicott (14-10, 9-7 CCC) has earned the fifth seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament. The Gulls will visit No. 4 Suffolk on Tuesday, February 20 for a quarterfinal round matchup in Boston (time TBD). (Photo Credit – David Le ’10) Senior Day Photo

St. Mary’s SpartansSWIMMING: Congrats to Isabella Morillo on finishing 8th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.92) today in the D1 swim state championships at MIT. She also finished 12th in the 200 IM (2:20.59).
