Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women’s lacrosse team opened conference play with a 10-8 victory over Salem State University this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.
With the win, the Rams improve to 4-3 on the year and are now 1-0 in the MASCAC. The loss drops the Vikings below .500 at 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Salem State grabbed the early lead just over seven minutes in when freshman Bridget Lawless (Swampscott, Mass.) converted a free position shot.  The Rams then rattle off three straight to take a 3-1 lead with 14 minutes left in the first.  Salem countered with a 3-0 run of their own to take a 4-3 edge with nine minutes remaining.  Sophomore Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) tied the game just before the half with her first of the game.
Framingham State opened the second half with two straight unassisted goals from Morghan Cassella (Lowell, Mass.) and Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.), before Erin Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) cut the lead back to one with 22 minutes remaining.  The Rams added two more and pushed the lead back to three at 8-5 just two minutes later.  Salem scored three of the next four goals in the game to cut the deficit to one (9-8) with 3:37 on the clock, but Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) tacked on an insurance goal just 30 seconds later to secure the win.
The Rams outshot the Vikings 24-22 in the game. Freshman Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the win in net for the Rams making nine saves, while senior Jenn Toussaint  (Reading, Mass.) took the loss for the Vikings despite making nine saves.
