Salem State Golf Wins MASCAC Title – 15th Title Overall – 5th Title in Last 7 Years

SUTTON, MA — Salem State senior Tom MacPherson (Jefferson, Mass.) captured medalist honors, edging teammate Cam Moniz (Seekonk, Mass.) by two strokes to help the Vikings win the Rich Korzec Invitational and the 2016 MASCAC Men’s Golf Championships held at the par-72 Blackstone National Golf Course this afternoon.

MacPherson shot a 74 ( 2), beating Moniz, 76 ( 4), who finished runner-up. Salem State posted a team-score of 308 ( 20), outpacing Worcester State, 314 ( 26) by six strokes for the MASCAC title. Westfield State finished third, 321 ( 33) while MCLA rounded out the field in fourth place, 404 ( 118). Chad Alibozak (Adams, Mass.) finished tied for fourth, 77 ( 5) while Ryan Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.), t-12, 81 ( 9) and Kevin Dyer (Beverly, Mass.), 15th, 84 ( 12) contributed to the win.    

The Vikings claimed their 15th conference championship overall and fifth in the last seven years since the tournament was restarted during the 2009-10 campaign after a 19 year hiatus. Salem State also placed first amongst all teams competing in the Rich Korzec Invitational. The Vikings’ 308 topped Rhode Island College by five strokes.
