Downtown trick-or-treating, free museum admissions and parking, and more | Friday October 8, 3:00 p.m.
SALEM, MA – Mayor Kim Driscoll, in partnership with Salem’s local attractions, museums, and Salem merchants, is pleased to announce that this year’s “Mayors Night Out” will take place on Friday, October 8, 2021.
Participating museums and attractions will open free of charge to Salem residents beginning at 3:00 p.m. Residents must provide a photo identification showing proof of Salem residency to gain free admission. Students may use a school identification card, bus pass, or a Salem Public Library card.
As part of Mayor’s Night Out the Museum Place Mall Garage and the South Harbor Garage will offer free parking to Salem residents after 4:00 p.m. (proof of residency will be required when you exit the garages).
“Mayor’s Night Out has become a great tradition for Salem residents,” said Mayor Driscoll. “October is a busy time for our businesses, and this is their way to say thank you to Salem residents, with a special day that lets our locals enjoy all that our vibrant downtown and waterfront has to offer during the Haunted Happenings season. Salem’s business community has really embraced this program and are offering several new specials and events this Friday, as well.”
New this year for residents is an opportunity to take a free fitness class at B&S Fitness at Shetland Park and a $10 discount from Whole Body Health in the Witch City Mall. Also new, Artist Row will be getting in the Halloween spirit with the Chagall Performance Art Collaborative and all the merchants in Artists Row giving away candy. Stop by the row for live music outside by a brass band, The Velvet Dirtmunchers, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Pickering Wharf merchants will also be joining in our trick-or-treat event this year, so we encourage everyone to take a walk down to the Wharf for more treats.
At the East India Square fountain, across from the Peabody Essex Museum, the Salem law firm of Mazow | McCullough, PC will distribute free safety flasher lights to help keep little trick-or-treaters safe and seen, Broad Smiles Pediatric Dentistry will give out toothbrushes for youngsters, and the Creative Collective Collective will have a mural so parents can take pictures of their costumed kids. Mayor Driscoll and Police Chief Lucas Miller will give out trick or treat bags for everyone and will provide masks to children and adults so they can trick or treat safely inside the Witch City Mall and other downtown businesses.
Mayor’s Night Out Trick-or-Treat has become a huge success over the years, and all of the merchants look forward to welcoming Salem children for the event. Trick-or-treating will begin at the East India Square fountain on the Essex Street pedestrian mall at 5:30 p.m., then continue down the Essex Street pedestrian mall and around the shops inside the Museum Place Mall. Families can venture on their own and visit other participating businesses elsewhere across the downtown and waterfront. Many businesses at Pickering Wharf and Artists Row will also be participating in trick-or-treating, so don’t forget to stop the Wharf and the Row and check out all the participating businesses.
