Salem Community Invited to Name City’s Newest Department of Public Services Garbage Truck

SALEM – Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo is excited to invite all members of the Salem community to participate in the naming of the Department of Public Services’ brand-new garbage truck. This special vehicle, designed to help keep Salem clean, is ready to hit the streets, and we want your input to help decide its name!

The city’s Department of Public Services and Mayor Pangallo have asked pre-k through second grade elementary school classrooms from across Salem Public Schools to submit names for consideration, and they have risen to that creative challenge over the past few weeks.  Now that the finalists have emerged, it is time for the entire community to follow the lead of Salem’s youngest scholars and vote for a winner. The winning name will reflect the spirit of our city, our commitment to keeping Salem clean and beautiful, and will be displayed on the new truck as it makes its way through our streets.

The finalists are:

  1. Bubbles
  2. Chicken Nugget
  3. Dashley
  4. Garble
  5. Greeny
  6. Huskey
  7. Mitten
  8. Pom-Pom
  9. Popcorn
  10. Rainbow
  11. The Earth Saver
  12. The Hunka Junka Truck

To vote, please visit: https://salemma.gov/truckname.  Voting will be open until Friday, January 31 at 12:00pm noon.

The winning name will be revealed at a ribbon cutting for the truck, where the newly named garbage truck, displaying its new moniker, will be unveiled.

“We’re proud of the young scholars who were excited to suggest names for our City’s new garbage truck and I’m excited to invite our community to be part of the fun by voting for their favorite name,” said Mayor Pangallo. “This truck is the latest step in our ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and sustainable city, and we believe the people of Salem should have a part in celebrating it!”
