Salem: Artists’ Row Springs to Life!

SALEMThe City of Salem, MA invites you to join the fun at this year’s Artists’ Row Season Kick-Off Event with their opening weekend market & hands-on artmaking workshops, 24 New Derby Street, Salem MA.

2025 welcomes an all-new array of artists and artisans down on Artists’ Row. Located at 24 New Derby Street in the heart of downtown Salem, this City sponsored art space showcases artist makerspaces and store fronts where you can enjoy live music, watch live artists demonstrations, participate in a hands-on workshop, find unique handcrafted gifts, and so much more!

Join us Saturday May 3rd from 10am-5pm to bring in the spring with the shops on Artists Row!

In addition to the shops being open for you to explore you can also experience:

MiraMar Block Print Tea Towel Workshop – 10:00am-3:00pm

In this one-day workshop, participants will create their own handprinted tea towel from design conception to print production!  Participants will design and carve an easy cut linoleum one color, one layer stamp. Upon completion, students will ink their stamp and hand press it to a cotton tea towel (5 towels). Students will keep the stamps and tea towels they create! This is a great way to learn about printmaking or try printmaking on a new surface!  Please note fees and preregistration are required, visit the link below to sign up!

Come Make “Hissstory”!  – 3:00-5:00pm

Come make “Hissstory” with the 2025 Salem Arts Festival Community Art Project alongside lead artists Claudia Paraschiv and Linda Mullen! Celebrate the life of Salem’s community and the Year of the Snake by crafting snake segments using our city’s discarded event banners and your own individual artistic flare. Join us for this FREE hand-on workshop on Saturday, May 3rd 3:00-5:00pm and help create “Hissstory” on Artists’ Row! The project will then be assembled and displayed downtown during the 2025 Salem Arts Festival and beyond. “Hissstory” is a project of Salem Main Streets and The Creative Collective and is made possible with support from the Salem Public Art Commissio

Moon Base One is an all-ages community space, focusing on hosting local musicians, artists and events of all kinds. The group aims to provide consistent programming in which all members of the local community can participate. North Shore Glass School offers a hands-on, creative experience for all levels of glass art enthusiasts.  Expert-led lessons are provided in fused glass, stained glass, flame working, and glassblowing. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your craft, the welcoming studio environment is perfect for learning and creating. North Shore Glass’s new Artist’s Row location in Salem MA will be offering fused glass, stained glass, and sandblasting classes as well as a retail store where you can purchase our unique, handcrafted glass pieces!

MiraMar Print Lab is an art studio focused on the art of printmaking. Founded in 2019 by artist duo, Sammia Atoui & Adrian Rodriguez, the studio creates limited edition fine art works on paper. Drawing inspiration from costal New England, MiraMar makes beautiful and beastly images of marinas, monsters, and myths. Each work of art is designed and printed by hand, using archival inks and papers. In addition to creating seasonal collections of art, the studio offers classes and workshops to people of all levels and experience in printmaking, drawing, and watercolor. MiraMar Print Lab offers opportunities to connect with fellow art-minded individuals in a unique space with professional equipment. They also offer on-going afterschool classes for middle and high school students on Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:30pm-5:30pm.  Check out their website for more information and other upcoming workshops!

Saboteuse Bootmaking, Salem’s 2025 Public Artist in Residence (PAiR), Sarah Madeleine T. Guerin is a French-American bootmaker, artist, scholar, and educator in Massachusetts. Sarah founded the bootmaking atelier Saboteuse in 2015 and was a Mentor in the Mass Cultural Council’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. With strong roots in Swampscott and Lynn, a former shoemaking hub, Sarah ties historical research into the evolution of footwear production in Massachusetts to inform her contemporary art practice and how art might influence possible futures in handmade footwear.

Residency Hours Starting May 2nd: 12:30 to 5:30pm Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with special hours on Thursday, May 1st & Friday, 2nd from 5:00-9:00pm for opening weekend.

Artists Talks /Presentations on “Ten Footers History & Living Traditions” will be held at the studio on the 30th of each month at 4:00pm. These talks are always free and open to the public and all ages.  Join us for the first talk of the season on Wednesday, May 30th in the Public Artist in Residence unit on Artists’ Row.

The Lobster Shanty is an OG Dive Bar that has been serving the good people of Salem since the 1970s here in Derby Square. In recent decades the Lobster Shanty has added quality comfort food, fresh seafood and scratch made ingredients throughout its menu.

April Open Hours: Noon to Midnight, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. 5:00pm to Midnight, Monday through Thursday.  Starting on May 5th the Lobster Shanty will be opening at Noon seven days a week.
