ROCKPORT– Chief John Horvath reports that the Rockport Police Department is searching for a man who exposed himself to a teenage girl on Long Beach yesterday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Aug. 9, at approximately 3 p.m., four girls approached a Rockport Police Officer who was on patrol at Long Beach to report that a man had exposed his genitals to one of them while in the water.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, and her friends, identified the man, who was still in the area, about a 100 yards away walking in the direction of the Guard Shack toward Gloucester. The Rockport Officer pursued the suspect on foot, but the man quickly fled the area.
Rockport and Gloucester Police, along with Rockport lifeguards and parking lot attendants, conducted a search for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, approximately 5-feet 9-inches tall, about 180-200 pounds, with short brown/gray hair. He was last seen wearing a camouflage baseball hat (with oval emblem on the front), no shirt, floral patterned shorts, a dark colored backpack and carrying an orange white boogie board, which was recovered by police.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone who may have seen the man yesterday afternoon, or has information about the incident, is asked to immediately contact the Rockport Police Department at 978-546-1212.
