Rockport Police Department Reports Vehicles Damaged Following Construction Blast

ROCKPORT – Police Chief John Horvath reports that the Rockport Police Department responded to reports of cars being damaged by a planned blasting at a construction site this morning.

On Friday, Aug. 11, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Rockport Police were requested to hold traffic in the area of Main Street for a planned construction blast at the Department of Public Works building construction site.

Once traffic was stopped, employees of GM Drilling and Blasting conducted the blast, which sent stray rock and small amounts of debris into the air.

A short time later, Rockport Police responded to a report of damage to vehicles at an automotive service center on Main Street.

As a result of an investigation Rockport Police found that one car sustained a broken rear windshield, one sustained a significant dent, and four others sustained minor scratch damage.

No injuries were reported.

Rockport Police notified the Rockport Fire Department and State Fire Marshal’s Office regarding this incident. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting a follow-up review at the construction site.
