Revere Police Cruiser Struck on Route 1

UPDATE Defendant identified as DENNY D. MILLER, d.o.b. 6/4/73, of Newburyport. MILLER charged with OUI 2nd offense; Failure to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle; and Failure to Take Care in Stopping/Starting. Location of crash determined to be Saugus on the line. Hence MILLER to be transported to Lynn District Court for arraignment.

At 12:01 a.m. today State Police were notified of a motor vehicle crash on Route 1 south in Malden. The crash involved the striking of a Revere Police cruiser on a mobile pothole repair detail operating in the right travel lane.

The investigation determined that the suspect vehicle ignored all warning signs, arrow boards, and police lights warning him to move over to the middle or left lanes.

The suspect vehicle rear-ended the cruiser, causing minor injuries to the Revere officer, who was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

State Police determined that the driver who struck the cruiser was OUI; troopers arrested him and transported him to the State Police barracks in Revere.
