Police Action on Route 495 – Lawrence / Andover – Armed Suspect Barricaded in a Vehicle

Update 10:15 p.m. I-495 SB and area ramps has reopened. The left lanes of I-495 NB remain closed. The right lane of I-495 NB is open for travel.

Update – 10 pm – The suspect has suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the vehicle. He has been transported to a hospital. No further information is available at this time. The highway remains closed but some lanes are expected to be opened soon.

State Police Report – Massachusetts State Police patrols and tactical units are on scene with an armed suspect barricaded inside a vehicle on Route 495, near Route 93, near the Lawrence/Andover line. We have the highway shut down at this time. This is a dynamic situation. As far as we know at this time the suspect is the only occupant of the vehicle. No further information is available at this time.
