NORTH SHOREFor their outstanding work in the classroom and in their respective athletic fields, Pingree School field hockey star Anna Kaneb and standout golfer Logan Stansbury of North Reading High School have been selected as the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for September.

For Anna, this is the second time she has been named a Moynihan Student-Athlete kanebmonthly winner; the Manchester native was also chosen for her exploits in November 2015.
“This award is an affirmation of everything I’ve worked for in high school,” said the 18-year-old, who holds a class average of 93 out of 100.
Having committed to continue her education and field hockey career at Brown University in Providence, Anna has long been a standout on the field for Pingree. The senior center midfielder began this season with a hat trick and one assist against Berwick and hasn’t let up since, displaying not only scoring acumen but also high levels of skill, leadership and togetherness for the Highlanders.
“I love the complexity of field hockey,” said Anna, who has been playing since the fourth grade. “It looks like a simple sport, but there’s a lot of creativity involved: the passing patterns, the array of skills you can use to get the ball up field and score. Field hockey is a sport that’s constantly evolving, where the rules get tweaked every two years or so, so you’re constantly trying to better yourself as the game changes.”
Coach Jen Richardson says that Anna’s skill set includes “advanced elimination skills, tough-to-defend aerials and impressive reverse chip and accurate draft lift.” In addition to starring at Pingree, Anna has also done so with the Boston FH club team.
Anna shines just as brightly in the classroom. She is also a member of the school’s Math and Science teams, remains involved with Model UN as a captain, and is a peer tutor leader. Having played the violin since her freshman year, Anna has also done community outreach through Catholic Charities.
Anna, who hopes to major in either Biology or Biophysics while at Brown, said the decision to continue her education at the Ivy League institution came down to her comfort level with the coaches and her love of the school itself.
When asked what her greatest individual award in field hockey has been, Anna said “Being named captain. It was such a great honor for all of my teammates to say they wanted me to be a team leader this fall.”
