Peabody Softball Advances with 11-3 Win Over St. Paul Diocesan – Abby Bettencourt Pitches & Hits

PEABODY (Photos – Videos) The #5 Peabody High softball team scored a 11-3 win over #12 St. Paul Diocesan Wednesday afternoon in the MIAA D1 Tournament. The Tanners will now play the winner of Friday’s game between #13 North Andover and #4 Wachusett Regional.

Peabody scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead that they would never give up. In the first inning, leadoff batter Abby Bettencourt drilled a homerun over the left field wall (1-0). The Tanners would add two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Abby Bettencourt led Peabody with a 3-4 performance at the plate with a homerun, single, and double. On the mound she struck out 13 batters and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, all of the runs came in the third inning when she gave up a single and back to back homeruns to Bella Mara and Alexa Tighe. For the Tanners Logan Lomasney had two hits and scored two runs. Penny Spack had two hits including a doulbe off the center field wall. Lizzy Bettencourt contributed with a pair of doubles. Eight Peabody batters scored runs with no one batter scoring more than twice in the balanced attack.
