North Shore Today: Weekend Updates – Boy is Killed By Train in Salem Friday Night – Route 95 Crash in Georgetown

SALEM – The following is a statement from the Essex Country District Attorney’s Office regarding an accident last in Salem, “A 10 -year old Salem boy was struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train in the vicinity of 40 Lawrence Street in Salem at approximately 8:05 this evening.  The boy was gathered with a group of other boys at a nearby park.  According to the witnesses, the boy was crossing the tracks to retrieve his bicycle.  An outbound train passed at 8:04 and then an inbound train went by about a minute later. Investigators believe that the boy was not aware of the second train.  It appears to be a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected.”


Georgetown Fire Department Responds To Crash on Interstate 95

GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 Thursday.
Firefighters were dispatched to a reported crash on northbound side of I-95 near the Route 133 overpass at 6:01 p.m., Thursday. Upon arrival, first responders found that three vehicles—two cars and a pickup truck towing a trailer—had been involved in a crash.
The Georgetown Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Rowley Fire Department also responded to the scene.
The trailer being towed by the truck overturned on the highway, briefly closing the road. One woman was transported to an area hospital with non-life threating injuries.
