Wenham Police and Fire Respond to House Fire

WENHAM — Police Chief Thomas Perkins and Fire Chief Robert A. Blanchard report that the Wenham Police and Fire Departments responded to a house fire late Saturday.

Units were dispatched to 21 Longfellow Road at 9:54 p.m. Upon arrival, there were visible flames coming from the house, and the structure appeared to be fully involved.

Officers spoke to a male resident who said he was the only person home at the time and that no one else was inside. He was not hurt, and no firefighters were injured battling the fire.

Wenham firefighters, with the assistance of the Hamilton Fire Department, were able to knock the fire down after about an hour. A total estimate of damages is not yet available.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Wenham Police and Fire Departments, but an initial investigation indicates that an accidental electrical incident appears to be the cause of the fire.
