State Senator Bruce Tarr – On Senate Budget Debate

 


 

SALEM – Senior baseball players Richard Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.), Sean Buckland (Lynn, Mass.) and Mike Davis (Peabody, Mass.) were named to the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Baseball (NEIBA) and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams in an announcement by both organizations on Tuesday afternoon. Fecteau was named first team All-New England for the third straight season while Buckland and Davis earned second team recognition.

Fecteau capped his Salem State career with another outstanding season, leading the Vikings in batting average (.393), hits (66), and runs (43). The senior second baseman tied the Salem State season mark for most hits and finished as the all-time leader in hits (227) and doubles (64).

Buckland ranked fourth overall in the country in wins with a perfect 10-0 record while throwing six complete games. The conference pitcher of the year posted the most wins in a season in school history and tied the Salem State mark for most wins in career with 21. Davis led the MASCAC with 10 home runs this season, tied for third most in New England. His 18 doubles led the conference and are tied for third most in a season in Salem State history while his 13 career home runs are ninth all-time.

All three players were chosen to participate in the NEIBA All-Star Game at Holy Cross on Sunday, June 5th.

Salem State won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship (MASCAC) for the second consecutive year, and third time in the past four seasons. The Vikings defeated Mass Maritime 16-8 in the championship game with Fecteau going seven-for-eight with three home runs, a double, four RBI and four runs scored in the championship series. Salem State went 2-2 in the NCAA New England Regional, posting wins over Wheaton and Mitchell.

GEORGETOWN – Chief Fred Mitchell Jr. is pleased to report that members of the Georgetown Fire Department participated in training exercises at the fire station last night.

Georgetown firefighters practiced several basic ground fire skills including raising ground ladders, deploying hose lines and working with hydrant connections.

In small groups, firefighters rotated to the different skill stations under the direction of Capt. Brian Gosse.

“It is so important for firefighters to continue to practice even the most basic firefighting skills throughout their careers,” Chief Mitchell said. “I am pleased that everyone who took part in this exercise did so enthusiastically.”

The Georgetown Fire Department conducts monthly training exercises based on the Firefighter Level I and II curriculum. These training sessions cover topics such as fire ground operations, EMS and apparatus equipment maintenance.
