The North Shore Navigators extended their season long win streak to seven on Sunday afternoon with a win over the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. The Navigators got a solid effort out of their team in the 4-2 win and improved their record to 26-24 on the season after 50 games.

The Navigators got an absolutely superb effort out of their starting pitcher Nick Malatesta (St. Joseph’s College of Maine). Malatesta worked seven innings during the game and absolutely dominated the Dirt Dawgs. He only allowed five total base runners and managed to add three strikeouts to his season total. He demonstrated excellent control during the night and was really the catalyst for the Navigators.

Alex Brickman (Siena College) came in to finish off the effort for the team and he looked good in his two innings of work. He only allowed one hit on the night and he lowered his ERA to an even 3.00 on the season, as the only run that he gave up was unearned. He was credited with the win as well, thanks to the late game offense from the Navigators.

In the eighth inning, the game was tied at one when the Navigators got their offense going. MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) and Jordan Roper (Marist College) got on base to start things off via a walk and a hit by a pitch respectively. Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) continued the rally with a walk of his own.

Then came the big at bat. Christian Cabrera (Broward CC) came up to the plate and worked the count to 2-1. Then, the fourth pitch came in and it went wild, allowing the runners to move up and Roper to score. Following that, Cabrera launched a fly ball to left field that the left fielder caught. Still, Singleton was able to tag up and come in to score and give the team a 3-1 lead.

The Navigators would put up one more run in the inning thanks to a single by Nick Falkson (Tufts University). That brought in Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College) to extend the lead to 4-1 and ultimately give the Navigators the cushion that they needed to win the game.

The Navigators will return to Fraser Field on Wednesday, August 2 when they play host to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
