Join Us For “Jazzin’ the Blues” Live Music Performance With Paul Speidel, Jazz and Blues Guitar; and John Turner, Upright Bass

Wednesday, June 7th, 7:00 pm – Abbot Public Library, Lower Level Meeting Room

The Abbot Public Library, will host Paul Speidel and John Turner for a memorable musical journey, taking the audience back to the beginnings of Jazz with examples of the Blues roots. It proceeds through the 20th century, performing styles from each period of Jazz evolution, highlighting the continuing presence of the Blues influences, even to the modern day. Pieces by Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and other greats are emphasized, with brief introductions and explanations of the music between pieces.

Johnny D’s, Acton Jazz Cafe, and many others. He’s taught Jazz and Blues in the Newton Public Schools for many years, and has presented programs at public and private venues in the area, as well. Last year, he had the privilege of performing live on WBUR’s “Radio Boston” program to nearly 500,000 listeners, and has appeared on countless other area radio shows over the years. He has nine CDs to his credit, and has been critically received nationally, including a 3½ star review in Downbeat in 2011. Artists performed with include Patti Page, Howard Alden, Jay Geils, Duke Robillard, James Montgomery and Shirley Lewis, to name just a few.

John Turner, who is currently holding the Bass Chair in Roomful of Blues, has performed globally with many famous artists such as Magic Dick and J. Geils, Ornette Coleman, Lee Konitz, and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, among many other notables. He has been a fixture on the New York and Boston Blues and Jazz scene for over 30 years, and has appeared on numerous recordings, as well.
