North Shore Student Athlete February Female Winner: Sarah Welch From Beverly High School – Headed to Brown University

NORTH SHORE – For their exploits both in the classroom and in their respective athletic endeavors, swimming star Sarah Welch of Beverly High and boys hockey standout Jack Stafford of the Lynn Jets have been named the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for February. Welch, a senior, will continue her education and swimming career at Brown University after having been accepted there early decision. An All-American in the pool, she won two individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams for the Panthers at the MIAA Division 1 state championships. Sarah placed first in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.31, and also took first in the 100 freestyle in 51.12. Both of her winning times were All-American consideration times. Her 400 free relay team set a new meet record in 3:29.71 (with another All-American time), and she helped lead the Panthers’ 200 medley relay to a new state record in 1:46.39. Sarah is ranked 10th in her senior class of 357 students and carries a grade point average of 4.5073 while also taking part in the Beverly High Music Program, its Strings Orchestra, its girls cross country team and is a long-time member of the YMCA of the North Shore Sharks swim team.

One male and one female monthly winner will be selected as Student Athlete of the Year and be honored at a luncheon in June. The yearly winners will also receive a scholarship.
