No Bail for Man in Haverhill Attack

A Haverhill man was held without bail at his arraignment on assault charges this morning in Haverhill District Court.

Jake Kavanaugh, 23, of Haverhill, pleaded not guilty to armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, mayhem and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.  Judge Ceasar Archilla ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.  A probable cause hearing is scheduled for April 9, 2021.

The defendant allegedly attacked a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter as they walked their dogs on Fairview Farm Road at approximately 4:47 pm yesterday.   The older woman was med-flighted to a Boston hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition.  The younger woman was treated and released from a local hospital.

Essex Assistant District Attorney John DePaulo represented the Commonwealth at the arraignment.

The defendant is represented by Attorney Tim Connors and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
