NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Matthew Simons is pleased to share that the Newburyport Police Department collected $5,900 in donations during the department’s annual food drive this holiday season.
This year’s food drive was held on Saturday, Dec. 7, and marks the 19th year the department has held this fundraiser.
Newburyport Police collected $4,200 worth of non-perishable food items and approximately $1,700 in gift cards and cash donations. Donations will benefit the Salvation Army, which provides food security to the community during the holiday season.
Newburyport Police would like to thank Salvation Army Major Jon-Erik Berkhoudt, Salvation Army Captain Jessica Berkhoudt, Market Basket, Shaw’s, Domino’s Pizza, Newburyport Troop 251, and the community for their donations and for dedicating time to help those in need.
“The success of this food drive is a testament to the amazing community that we are a part of and the selfless work of all the volunteers,” said Marshal Simons. “I am grateful to each person that gave of their time, money, or food in support of these efforts and to Officer Matt Whitty, for coordinating the logistics around this event each year.”
