| NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department arrested a man yesterday for 10 counts of Breaking and Entering and charged a woman as his accessory.
ANTHONY GIARRUSSO, AGE 29, OF AMESBURY, is charged with:
• Breaking and Entering During the Daytime for a Felony (10 Counts)
• Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250 (Five Counts)
• Possession of Burglarious Tools
• Larceny Over $250
• Larceny Under $250
GIARRUSSO is also wanted on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court for Possession of a Class A Substance.
Police also arrested TONI DOYLE, AGE 33, OF METHUEN, who is charged with Accessory After the Fact.
On Wednesday, Aug. 31, at approximately 4 p.m., Newburyport Police were notified that the Salisbury Police Department was attempting to locate GIARRUSSO in connection with a recent breaking and entering at Richard’s Appliance, 155 Bridge Road.
Later that day, at 5:47 p.m., Newburyport Police were dispatched to 3 Zabriskie Drive for a report of a suspicious male, later identified as GIARRUSSO, in the basement laundry room area. Zabriskie Drive primarily consists of multi-unit condominium buildings, each with a shared basement area with coin-operated washer and dryer machines and individual storage units.
Upon arrival, an officer observed that the coin collection area of the dryer had been attempted to be accessed. Police searched the area surrounding the condo buildings on foot, but could not locate the suspect.
As officers arrived back to Zabriskie Drive at approximately 6:15 p.m., they received a radio call that a suspicious male matching GIARRUSSO’S description had been observed inside the building at 12 Zabriskie Drive and had just entered 5 Zabriskie Drive.
Police located GIARRUSSO in the basement of 5 Zabriskie Drive and he was taken into custody without incident.
After an initial investigation, police determined that DOYLE was operating a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident. Additionally, after a walk-through of other condos on Zabriskie Drive, police found that several washer and dryer coin collection areas had been broken into, along with multiple storage units.
GIARRUSSO was held on $3,040 cash bail and DOYLE was held on $1,040 cash bail. They were both held overnight at the Newburyport Police Station pending their arraignment at Newburyport District Court.
