NEWBURYPORT — Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury III reports that the Newburyport Fire Department responded Friday when high winds blew a large tree onto a home.

On Friday, March 7, at approximately 1:02 p.m., the Newburyport Fire Department was called to 372 High St. for a report of a tree that struck a home.

Companies arrived to discover that high winds broke off a portion of a large pine tree and sent it falling into the roof of a home, causing significant damage.

Two people were home at the time but neither were injured.

Due to the severity of damage to the home, both residents will be displaced. Firefighters helped to get two cats and a dog out of the home.

Firefighters also stood by at the scene until a tree company could secure the damaged tree.
