NEWBURYPORT — Acting Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III reports that the Newburyport Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., Newburyport Fire responded to the area of Turkey Hill Road near the West Newbury town line for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle.
Upon arrival, first responders found that the vehicle, a Lexus IS 300, had struck a tree. The two occupants of the vehicle, both males approximately in their early 20s, were found to be trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters quickly set to work to use hydraulic rescue tools to safely extricate both occupants from the vehicle.
One occupant was transported by ground to an area hospital. The other was taken to an area hospital for further transport by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. Amesbury Fire Rescue paramedics and Cataldo Ambulance assisted with transport.
The scene was cleared at approximately 10:45 p.m.
Three Newburyport engine companies responded to the scene. A mutual engine from West Newbury Fire provided station coverage.
The crash is under investigation by the Newburyport Police Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
