Newburyport Fire Department Extinguishes Fire in Bedroom Wednesday Morning

NEWBURYPORT — Chief Stephen H. Bradbury reports that the Newburyport Fire Department extinguished a fire in a bedroom on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 10:02 a.m., Newburyport firefighters responded to 63 Curzon Mill Road for reports of a house fire.

Responding crews arrived on scene and found a small fire in a bedroom on the second floor of the home.

Firefighters began an attack of the fire by stretching a handline and ventilating the smoke and were able to knock the fire under control at 10:52 a.m., less than one hour after the initial report came in.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the bedroom. The room suffered smoke and fire-related damage on the exterior and interior.

Newburyport Fire contacted City Inspectors and National Grid to inspect the home including the gas and electrical system.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Newburyport Fire Department, but it is believed to be accidental.
