NEWBURYPORT — (Photos Below) City Marshal Mark Murray reports police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon and is seeking the public’s help identifying the suspect.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., police responded to Santander Bank, 45 Storey Ave. for a report of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers were told the suspect entered the bank and demanded money from the teller.
The man fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash through the parking lot, across Low Street and into the woods.
The suspect is described as a man wearing a medical mask, sunglasses and a camouflaged hooded jacket.
The Salisbury Police Department K9 unit was brought in for mutual aid to try and track the suspect, but police were unable to locate the suspect.
Police from Salisbury, Amesbury, Newbury, Georgetown, West Newbury, Massachusetts State Police and North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) assisted with the search.
No weapons were shown and no one was injured during the incident.
The Newburyport Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about this incident or can identify the suspect to call the Inspector Christopher McDonald at 978-462-4411.
